Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions homeowners ask when filing a claim or checking their Service Guard workmanship warranty.

Questions

A Service Guard warranty covers workmanship-related issues — meaning problems caused by how your roof was installed, not by the materials themselves or outside forces like weather.

What is covered:

  • Installation errors that cause roof performance problems (e.g. improper flashing, poor sealing, incorrect ventilation)
  • Workmanship-related leaks that stem from how the roof was installed
  • Eligible roof issues tied directly to the contractor's installation work

What is not covered:

  • Hail, windstorm, tornado, or hurricane damage — this is weather-related and falls under homeowners insurance
  • Normal wear and tear over time
  • Manufacturer defects in the shingles or materials
  • Pre-existing damage that was present before installation
Final coverage terms, exclusions, and claim eligibility are governed by your issued warranty documents. If you're unsure, review your warranty certificate or contact us.

Filing a claim is done online at the File a Claim page. Here's how the process works:

Submit online with your project details and roof issue description.

  3. 3 Inspection · 24–48 hours
If needed, Service Guard coordinates an inspection.
  4. 4 Coverage Decision
You receive a decision or requesting more information.

Have additional photos or documents after submitting? Email them to claims@serviceguardwarranty.com with your claim reference number.

Timelines vary depending on the complexity of the claim and whether an inspection is needed. Here's a general guide:

  • Initial acknowledgment: You'll receive confirmation that your claim was received within 24–48 hours of submission.
  • Initial review: A Service Guard team member will assess your claim details within 24–48 hours.
  • If an inspection is required: Scheduling and completing an inspection typically adds another 24–48 hours, depending on availability in your area.
  • Coverage decision: After all information is reviewed, you'll receive a written decision, or a request for more information.

The best way to keep your claim moving: respond promptly when Service Guard requests additional information or documentation.

If you have an active leak causing interior damage, note this on your claim form. Urgent safety concerns are reviewed with priority.

If your claim is denied, you will receive a written explanation describing why the issue did not qualify under your warranty terms. Common reasons for denial include:

  • The damage was caused by weather (hail, wind, storm) rather than workmanship (home insurance should cover this)
  • The issue is due to normal wear and tear or lack of maintenance
  • The issue is a manufacturer defect in the materials (manufacturer warranty should cover this)
  • The claim was filed outside the warranty coverage period

If you believe the decision is incorrect, you may provide additional documentation or evidence for reconsideration. Contact us at claims@serviceguardwarranty.com with your claim reference number to request a review.

A denial does not mean the issue isn't real — it means it falls outside the scope of a workmanship warranty. Weather-related damage is typically covered under your homeowners insurance policy.

Before you start, gather the following. Having these ready will make the process faster:

  • Your policy or warranty number — This is on your warranty certificate or the documentation you received after your roof was installed.
  • Installing contractor's name — The name of the roofing company that completed your roof installation.
  • Date of installation — Approximate or exact date the roof work was completed.
  • Property address — The address of the home where the roof was installed.
  • Description of the issue — What you're seeing, where on the roof it appears, and when you first noticed it.
  • Photos — Clear photos of the affected area, both close-up and from a wider angle. Interior damage photos (e.g. ceiling stains) are also helpful.
  • Weather information — Note whether there was any recent severe weather in your area.

Don't have your policy number? Check your email for the original warranty documentation sent after installation, or contact the contractor who did the work. You can also reach us at info@serviceguardwarranty.com and we'll help you locate it.
